Lago Maggiore
A subalpine Lake in Switzerland and Italy on the southern side of the Alps, located at 46° North and 8.6°East, at an altitude of 193 m above sealevel.
The lake has a surface of 212.5 km², is 64.37 km long and up to 12 km wide. Its maximum depth is 372 m in the cryptodepression between Ghiffa and Porto Valtravaglia. The average depth is 177.4 m. The water volume is 37 km³, with a residence time of 4 years.

The Lago Maggiore is ca. 50 km north of Milano and is west of Varese and Lugano. Its northern part is in Switzerland.
